Default WC or Frys?

If you had a budget of $300-$400, would you start a colony of tropheus with Wild Caughts or F-1 frys & why?

I know, everyone will have their preferences & their own styles of starting one, but was wondering what your thoughts or "philosophies" are on how to start one.

I'm open to the wisdom of all your experiences. Thank you in advance.

If you had experience $300 of bred youngsters. They will take a while to mature but you can have a bigger nardier group imo.

1) there's so much Trophy fry around it's only reasonable to make use of it instead of keep on buying WC
2) as said, you get more fish for the money and can build a bigger group
3) you can watch them growing up and how the interaction between them change during that process. I personally appreciate this
4) tank raised are usually a bit less vulnerable to diseases

just my two cents

Agree with the others personally. I only buy wilds if I can't locate fry.

And for $300 you're not getting many wilds......

Wow, excellent points! I like the idea of getting "more fish for the money". I have a friend who doesn't have your patience because he has experienced the loss of frys before maturity. He prefers WC & has told me, "I'm a breeder, not a grower!" haha, lol...

I see, you only resort to WC if it is rare. Great point. I would guess, if we keep on buying WC, the species may become extinct in the wild.

Just for the sake of the argument WC vs. Frys, let's just say $1,000, ok?

Want to see both sides of this dilemna. Anybody for WC?

I guess, one advantage of having WC, is that one can turn into a breeder almost instantly.

wc all the way for me , kept in the right conditions youll soon make your back that you forked out in the first place . from my experiance a settled wc group produce alot more fry than a group of tank bred fish .

Not sure what I'd do, I like the idea of wilds - the Murago I have are absolutely amazing. But i also enjoyed watching by Duboisi grow from fry.

It's a great question tho and one that should bring out some good discussions.
