With my first colony( that lasted 10 yrs.) I did a 50% change weekly but, when I got my new fry I decided to do 25% every other day. Why? I can't really say but, after observing my fry I began to think that I had my hands in this tank too much and they didn't seem to like it.
I know there are others who would disagree but, I guess every tank is different. Anyway, now back to 50%. They seem more calm and I am more calm.
Water clarity was good no matter which way I did it.

It also Really depends on the Situation. If Meds require then that's one thing. Or if all of the fish are healthy but you know the tank is small and the nitrates build up fast then it may be necessary until a larger tank is found.

Also, with fish that are already stressed, sometimes even the mild stress of to many water changes can have a negative effect on them and it's better to just let tank balance out and either feed very lightly or better yet, not at all for a week. Sometimes you really can "love them to much"... Best to keep filtration clean during these times as well. All to often people overlook the importance of a clean established filtration media...
