I think that I remember reading that O.B. mutations don't manifest until adulthood/maturity. You couldn't just sell off fry that weren't right if that were the case.

Let's assume that the 1/1000 is accurate; that doesn't mean that any colony of Kalambo will give 1 O.B. per 1000 offspring. That ratio would be for the whole of the population. The only way to get that ratio would be to have massive sampling of breeding adults (we're talking pond at the minimum or a beeder/importer with heavy throughput).

Keeping Kalambo just to get O.B.s is like buying a lottery ticket or entering a raffle; much easier, quicker, & cheaper to just pay through the nose to those who've gotten lucky. Regular Kalambos are pretty nice looking though; they look similar to 'moops'.

I just talk to the seller that I'm talking about, he do have some OB kalambo. He sent me the pics too... OB on the sexable size for $40 ea. But the shipping that will kill you. The seller is located from camaroon, that's some part in Africa, he can you use CAMIARCO for shipping but the fee is $90 pick up to the nearest airport or EMS door to door overnight shipping for $145. Shipping cost is the thing that stopped me to buy it... I was going to order some but i got scared of shipping cost... But anyways, if you want some OB, this is your chance, he said 12 left.

Cameroon in central western Africa? Who cares about shipping costs, 40$ each would be a sensational price. But i doubt that you would ever see them

Just a guess but....maybe bc it's Africa and no one really knows the seller.

If he takes your money and don't ship the fish you can't really do anything about it.

OB = orange blotched, genetic mutation on a troph specifically the kalambo variant.
