Default F1 Tropheus Duboisi 'Maswa' - Wide Sides Line Update

Hey Gang,

Took a video of some F1 maswa fry Im growing out from my wild female I call "Wide Sides".

I think these fry are about 18 months old based on the info I can dig up. The smaller ones are probably just under 3" and the biggest ones might be 3.5".

This was a group of 20 fry that I collected and held when my group first started breeding. Since then I have removed 4 males along the way making it a group of 16 total fish in this 6ft 135 gal.

Some in the group are not really even close to being done with their color change and all of them have some aging to do before they reach their full adult potential... but you get the idea where the group is heading. I'm thinking they will all be colored up in another six months. Seems this strain is slow to change but worth the wait.

They have just started some halfhearted attempts at holding eggs etc and they are getting close to big enough to start doing some selective male swapping with my other Maswa group.

Anyway, I am really pleased with them so far and I hope you enjoy the video. Make sure to watch in HD!

Thank you.

John Irby

Growing out a group of Trophs takes some patience. And close to two years to get them to breed consistently. Nice Dubs.

Did you get to any Phish shows this summer? I went to Blossom.

You are correct about the patience part! I plan to swap some males around and do some selective breeding...and after growing those fry out for couple years, I'll be in position to actually line breed should I decide to do so. Hopefully my original wilds are still with me so I can do some back crossing in future years. Anyway, I've come to realize that to properly do this project, its going to be about a 5-10 year run! Anyway, the results are really pleasing thus far and I'm having fun doing it!

As far as Phish goes, I went to Raleigh, Merrieweather night 1 & 2, and Magnaball. They are playing as good as ever! What a blast!
