Default Information on Yellow Banded Moorii "Mboko"

Hello there! It has been forever since I've been active on the forum and with the community since setting up my Tropheus tank a little over a year ago and I've been addicted to my guys since but I'm craving more knowledge on the species I'm keeping.

I was originally going to keep Duboisi Maswa but things went south with an order and ended up getting Moorii instead. Since I've kept these guys, I've still been trying to dig for more information on them, yet I haven't found much out there on them. Any veteran troph keepers out there have any insight on the Mboko collection point? I was thinking this was a rare spot to collect, or atleast so I've been told.

I've seen Tropheus imported from that part of the lake in the last 1.5-2 years. So it's not out of the question.

Did you mean you haven't seen trophs imported from there in that long? Interesting...that may put some of the comments I've had regarding my colony into perspective.

I'm beginning to think the mishap with shipping and not getting my maswa colony was a good mistake!

Yes, I've seen them imported in the last year or two. Not very often, but they have been. Honestly , it's only been a time or two that I've noticed them.

Yours were probably one of them if you saw them on a list.

I just read that Mboko is in Congo near Pemba, a few people have them but it's rare.

Somewhat similar to Pemba Tropheus.

Here are Pam Chin's Mboko.

Mboko are nice but not collected much due to low demand. I usually don't import them just for the reason that they don't seem to have much of a demand.

All good information. I don't recall seeing them on a list, but they may have been. Wonder why there isn't much demand. I guess they aren't as pretty as some of the other variants, but I've grown quite attached to mine.

In Africa they must spend a lot of time and money(gas) to collect the fish. They follow our lead, the hobbyist. They just will not go after fish they know will sit in their tanks in Dar. I have seen them offered before, actually a lot in the past. I think I brought them in once or twice and almost had to give them away. I agree though they're cool little fish most all of them are. Like emerald said if you love them that's all that matters.

That's a shame, as these little guys are just as rambunctious and adorable as I expected! I'm not gonna lie though, I REALLY was looking forward to the maswa's I originally wanted, but these guys turned out just fine!
