Yes that's right. One colony is always the best option. But it depends on many things.
My Dubs have no problem with Nkonde. In the aquarium will remain and Pemba. They are only 3 adult fish one male with two females. Nkonde were about 11 adults and 15 Dubs. I have about 35-40 young in the same aqua. Each of the three colonies is working well. Most importantly they are put together in a tank and maybe they are accustomed to each other and of course the size of my tank that is:
117/23.5/23.5 in inches 286 US gallons (9.84 feet /2f/2f)
