My first EARLY (day 1 or 2) strip! I hope I have the pump set right, at first they were going up and down a 1/4 inch of a bounce but I turned down the pump so that thy're just wiggln, is that the right movement they need?

Right movement but most likely worst pull days. Best to wait a good 5-7 days. or longer if possible. I've seen holding females spawn again after 4-5 days of initial spawn, most likely to get a little extra milt to ensure the rest of the eggs get fertilized. This may be why you only had 7 eggs at 1-2 days. They didn't get fertilized initially.

Veteran trophs will "get er done" the first time with ease and have a mouthful. I'm guessing young males just done have as motile sperm as a seasoned male. They need to active their production.
