Hey guys, greetings from europe.
Building new giant tank (at least for me) - 3 m. long , 0,85 m wide, 0,6 m h. It will be dedicated to trophs and petros, but the question is - what tipe of sump to make ?? I want HUGE overfiltration - the sump will be 1,8 m long, 0.7-0.65 m wide, 0.4-0.5 h. What to choose - submersible + air pump, fluidized moving bed or wet dry ? In generally I want silence + a lot of O2 in water + ENORMOUS filtration. First fish which will be kept its " koi " carp larvae in huge amount for my pond and I dont want them die, I want to raise them for few cm. What can you offer and why ? Thanks. |

You could almost get away with some kind of pool filtration system and a large sump?

Want to make only sump filtration, at the moment probably the best var. would be fluidised moving bed with sand, but can't figure out how it should be made, I can only find V letter type construction or in additional glass. My idea is to try to make it in simple square construction with as much as possible diffusers under the sand, to move it, but cant figure out how much sand I will need, how big the section with sand should be, how much sand will I need, How to stop the sand from getting to other sections ?

You might try monster fish keeper.com, I know some guys there have built and filtered some massive tanks and posted there builds as well. Might have to search for them but worth a shot.

Youtube is another option for ideas, I've seen some pretty huge sump builds on some of the videos I've watched over the years.

With 3m tank I would assume you will go for two overflows. You get quite a lot of filtration already by putti g bioballs in the overflows - you get two large wet-dry filters.
I would personally skip fluidised sandbads. I've always feared about what's gonna happen in case of power outage-that's reaaally a lot of dead bacteria that will get released into the aquarium when the power comes back. But that is just me. I would stick to the wet-dry and some ceramics in the sump plus fine, plastic (easy to rinse, no need to wash) filter socks on the inflow to the sump for mechanical filtration.
