Mrgreen Stocking a 180

Hi everyone. I'm currently setting up a 180 tank I acquired last week. I figured I'll have the stand finished and everything plumbed up by next week.

I currently have a 20 hospital tank and a 55 with about 20 mixed group of 3 dubs 7 ikola 4 bulu cherry and 6 bembas. I haven't been at this hobby very long, and I acquired these fish trying to have a nice color variant.

after a few months, I know better now and I would like to go with just one species for this 180.

My question is, if I only get 15 or so of 1 variant, is the tank too big for them? Wold they acclimate well without killing each other?

I would like to add that I have yet to lose 1 fish yet thanks to my religious water changes. Thanks

I started up a 120 with 8 red Ndoles, 12 Duboisi, and, 20 Bebma. I bought them all as small fry. I lost 9 of the Bemba fry. At 5/8", I should have had them in a grow out tank. I lost one Duboisi to my first and only case of bloat. About a year in, I swapped out the 120 for a 180. I bought another 8 Ndole and moved them to a 55 at work because I didn't eat to keep 3 varients in one tank.

I bought a 180 to replace the 120. I had 10 Duboisi (4m/6f) and 11 (4m/7f) Bemba in the 180. I also had 6 Eretmodus, which I sold recently, in with them. Both groups get along fine and breed like crazy. My Duboisi group is now at 23 and the Bemba group at 21. The additions were from fry that survived in the tank. My adults produce lots of fry, but I hate yanking all the rocks out to get them. In the past year, I have sold about 30 fry and given away at least twice that amount. I must change my business model. Nobody wants to buy F2 or F3 fish. My f3 Bemba fry look nicer than the parents.

Your quantity of 15 should work for you. I would make a decision to add more of one of your existing varients. Get another 15 ikola or cherry spots. If you live near Cleveland, I could hook you up with some Bemba. You do not want to keep two types of Sp Blacks together. They will cross breed. Add to your Duboisi group too.

Thanks for the tip. Most of my fish are at 2-3" now. I actually saw some ikolas doing the tail dance last night! Explained how they do it to my wife and she was totally grossed out lol.

Well anyway, I was thinking about dishing out some $$ and get 1 group of a rare variant. Or perhaps a half brichardi and half bembas?

And thanks for the offer gw. But unfortunately, I live on the other side of the country in San Diego.
