There are two types of namansi collected close together. One is a moori (the namansi red/chungwa) and the brichardi (namansi reef).

Jen, those are the namansi reefs. I'm sure of it.

I'm only looking for info on the moori namansi red/chungwa.

Thanks to all for the replies so far.[/b]

i have talked to my exporter about the "chungwa" ever since those pics showed up here from the guy who got them from air fish. he tells me that the "chungwa" is def. not the same fish as the namansi red. i have asked him again to find the "chungwa" for me so he is gonna give it another shot. basically his divers have to ask around to find out where the "chungwa" is collected.

They look almost the same to me.

Does anyone know where the name "chungwa" came from?

I read somewhere that Chungwa was Swahili for Orange. Which would explain why they are called Namansi Reds and Chungwa

So same fish?

AMS is saying they are not the same fish. But chungwa has an unknown collection point.

Namansi red is at least collect at or close to namansi reefs.

Interesting your exporter says they are not the same fish. There has been other nomenclature used in the past "kaiser II", m. namansi red or chungwha/chungwa. I guess always assumed they were the same fish.

I agree with G.

So there is an exporter that says namansi red is not the same as chungwa. But he/she seem to not know where chungwa are collected and can't get them at the time being.

All accounts otherwise, they are going by the same nomenclature.

look you asked a question and i answered what i know about it. he knows its not the same fish because he is very familiar with how the namansi red looks. those pics and video of the "chungwa" i sent to him and he said "they are not the same". he can't get them because "chungwa" is a made up collection point. only the dive team that got those original ones that air fish got in which to my knowledge and please correct me if i am wrong, was the only time i have seen the "chungwa". AGAIN i could be wrong, i don't have time to google and research how many times "chungwa" has been imported. i thought it was a very nice fish when i first saw the pics and wanted to get them. he has been in business over there for 15 + yrs . if they were the same fish he would have no reason to say otherwise.
