Would anyone like to volunteer their lighting schedule? Tell us when do you put the lights on & when do you turn them off? What kind of lights are they T5, 54 watts x 4? I'd like to hear from some of our breeders out there, since not all your tanks are SHOW TANKS. Do you give them much light?

I'm finding out that this is an expensive hobby in terms of the amount of electrity it takes to keep our fish colored up.

Thanks,

I keep my lights on 10-12 hours a day but only because the trophs really enjoy a nice layer of algae to graze on. It's totally up to you how long you want to keep the lights on for. If you're concerned with electricity costs I would look into LED lighting.

I wonder, is there an LED fixture that offers the 6500K or even the 10,000K feature? If anyone finds one, can you please provide a link? I would SERIOUSLY consider buying it to reduce my electric bill.

Thanks

I don't know much about LED lighting, but I am pretty sure they offer 10k lights. Just check around online I'm sure you will find something. What kind of lighting are you currently using?

I'm using T8 48" x 2 10,000K, but I limit the time with about 2hrs during the day & 2 hrs at night when viewing.

I would keep them on longer if I had Led 10,000K light fixture.

These lights shouldn't be using much electricity to be honest. Have you noticed a big change in your electric bill or something?

I posted on here a while back about experimenting with led strips, I still haven't tried it yet since I still haven't found a new job to support my experiment. This site I found had red LED's too and other colors I think...i forget.

Anyways my plan was to design an led strip with a mix of warm white, neutral white, red LEDs and a few blue ones. It was just an idea really, no design plans yet. But after reading the post here by gene I feel confident it will turn out all right...when I get around to it of course
