Growin out Tropheus from fry is a project. Take a good year and a half for the to hit their prime coloration. About 2 years before they breed.

Yeah they are definitely slow growing, especially compared to mbuna. Makes growing out a colony time consuming but worth the watch

IKOLA look the best with solid contrasting colors IMO, but then again I have not had any since 1999 and they go well with some nice Duboisi Maswas. MOOPS would be my second choice and Illangis are over rated. Also big water changes and good food make them grow really fast, I can show you pics of my F1 RR's I received from Greg last August that were under 1"and now are 3" and popping with color..
