The parents of my group are OB and Golden. No regular kalamabo were in the mix. All of the fry produced by my group will have the gene in them needed to produce the OB or Golden morph. And should produce a larger % of mutants. The genetic ground work has already been laid. Looking forward to continuing to work with this fish and see what happens.

Butch you will have to forgive my ignorance as I don't know the science involved. With the OB gene present throughout the colony is there a constant rate at which the gene is dominant or passive in the offspring? Or does it just randomly present in an unknown ratio?

I dont know if this would be the samething as I dont know too much about fish and their makeup.
But I do know dogs. There is the bandog that when they breed, thet do not become full bred bandog. they are a mix of the sire being mastif (prefer neo mastif) and the b***h to be Bulldog (prefer APBT or Stafford but they are know to use American bullys for power). However, the Dogo de Argetnina are a made line of 10 species of dog to make the one ultimate game dog. This dog when bred stoll become true Dogo event though this dog was made out of 10 different line of dogs and become full breed in the late 1940s. the only color the dogo comes out is white and NO diseases. Maybe the same can be in what Butch is doing with the mix of OB and Gold instead of the usual Kalambo. Please keep a detail log if you hadnt already as I am very very curious and I believe you stepped into something really awesome man. You can also try to change it up also for other results. Man this is just awesome. I am really geeked out. Updates, updates and more updates, lol. Thanks and goodluck butch. Frankie |

I split the group in half last week. Kept the 2 Golden Males and 20 females and 15 unknowns in the 210. And put the rest which were males and more unknowns in a 240. This seemed to really jump start breeding activity. I shot a little video of the #2 Golden male doing his thing with a female who now has a huge mouthful. This #2 male is really coming into his own now and his colors are amazing. My camera does not come close to capturing his color but I asked Santa for a new camera for Christmas so fingers crossed. Of course the canister filter had air in it and was blowing tiny bubbles the whole time. One day I hope to be able to do these fish some justice and really capture the true colors. Until then enjoy the magic that only can be made with an antique Canon Elph.

I am still trying to figure this out. Are there 3 types of Kalambo from the same cp? Regular, golden and ob? The second 2 can carry the mutant gene and the first does not? Or is golden and ob mean the same thing?
Anyone fully understand this scenario and can explain it in detail? Thanks in advance. Last edited by DireWolf; 01-01-2013 at 07:28 PM. |
