here are a few updated pics. sorry for the quality. one of these days i will invest in a nice camera. anyways the male is doing great and i can see him changing ever so slowly. a few things for sure are that his tailfin tips and anal fin is changing from yellow to orange and his body is also getting more yellow. the camera kinda picks that up but much more noticeable in person.

here are a few pics of some of the 3 inch fish that stand out from the others. hard to tell in the pics but they have yellow coming in the rear of the dorsal and also have yellow/orange egg spots on the anal fin. they also have much more yellow in the body. i hope that these fish will develop into goldens. others at the same size have no yellow in the dorsal, just solid blue/black and no egg spots.

Hello all. Just wanted to share some pics of my new additions. After 10 long months of leg work and organizing I finally imported a large group of Tropheus OB Golden Kalambo. These are F1 from OB Golden Parents. I was lucky enough to get a 4 inch male who is just starting to mutate into a golden. I got 80 total juvies 40 are 2.5 inches and 40 are 1-1.5 inches. If I am lucky 10% of the 80 will mutate into OB or Goldens. The rest that do not mutate still have the gene so I will work with them once they start breeding. Once they mature I will separate the OB's And Goldens and form a group and then work the others to. I was told that once they start getting 3-3.5 inches that the mutations will begin and am looking forward to documenting this process. In some of the larger juvies I can see yellow starting to come in the dorsal which is a good sign that these could mutate into goldens. Anyways here are some pics. I will update this thread as they grow. My camera is not great and does not capture how cool the male is. The tips of his tailfin is turning yellow, his pectoral fins have turned yellow, yellow is starting in his dorsal and anal fins and his eyes are red. He has a lot of white around the mouth and I was told that the more white around the mouth usually means the crazier the mutation will be.

OB = Orange blotched, essentially rare genetic mutation in the kalambo (lemon spots) morphs. The golden color morphs seem to come out as the fish matures.

Butch how are the OBs doing? Pics look great, that male will be stunning, here is to living vicariously through you and trophs.com! Life is good.

ABeen fascinated by these since i saw them in cichlid yearbook. Had many an argument with people who say they are line bred. Interesting to see the juvi colour nd cant wait to see pics of the adults.

they are doing very well and growing like weeds. what size are the ones in your video? most of mine are 3 inches now. i have 2 that are starting with the black spots in the body. and then another 10-12 which i believe are going to be golden based on the color in the dorsal and eggs spots in the anal fin. i will take some new pics soon.
