Hello all- Just wondering about the smallest groups you've been able to breed? The reason I ask is that a friend of mine bought two trios of wc leubas not long ago and he has them in with a bunch of fish he really shouldn't have them in with. (fronts, phenos, other various peacocks) He feeds the tank a variety of foods so everybody gets something they want but still...it ain't right! lol
I'm teetering on the fence about grabbing them from him to give them a better home. I really hadn't planned on doing a tropheus tank at this time as cyphos and altos seem to be my bread and butter these days but his trophs don't seem happy and I'm getting a little concerned about his "fish abuse". hahaha What are the chances I can get this small group to spawn? What size tank would I want to start off with and do you think I'd be able to get by with the tiny group or would I have to add to the group? I know...the more the merrier but I'd rather not get into a full fledged colony right now if I can avoid it. Like I said...I just want to give them a better home. |

I have kept and bred groups of 6-7 tropheus... 2M and 4-5 females with good success. I found a really sparse tank with a flower pot or a couple 2.5" PVC elbows at each end to serve as structure worked best. I have kept them in 40 breeders for a while but found a 75 gal worked best.
Alot depends on the group of fish and if the males are real hot heads or not. |

Thanks man, appreciate it! I do have a 75 I could slide them into and see how it goes for now.

I have a feeling I'm going to end up with tank full of tropheus again before I know it. ![]() |

I agree with TroPhish. Really depends on how aggresive the males are . And probably want to add a few troph friendly tank mates. Trophs tend to be less aggresive in a crowded tank.
