Default Filter Night

Well tonight was filter maintenance night. It took me just over an hour to clean the XP3 and XP4 that are running on my 150. I normally do them every three months but I think I'll change the interval to every two months from now on. They were FILTHY!!!

I also put a couple 125 ml bags of Purigen in the XP4. Its my first try with it so I'll see if it makes a difference.

I do mine (2 XP3s) once a month. They collect some junks, but not a lot so it's easier to clean them. I find more sand in them than poop. I use fine Aragonite sand and damn trophs keep playing with it, scooping it up, swim around and spit them out...Some got caught in the filter. Not sure if that will shorten the live of the filter propeller and motor.

I have 2 FX5s on my 265. I cleaned them for the first time in 6 months this past saturday. And they really werent that bad. I do large water changes on that tank, usually around 200 gallon change. My 265 is my frontosa tank. so i dont think there is as much poop or any missed food. as opposed to a large colony of trophs
