Bare bottom , with sponge filter running, till they get some size on them no rocks at all, lessens agression. And 2 - 3 times weekly water changes, along with at least 3 x daily feedings.Alot of hobbyist just let the mom spit in the main tank.Save time and trouble.

i have found that fry grow faster in tanks with substrate & i would always recommend substrate as it will also contain biological filtering bacteria.

Are you going sell the fry? If yes, you want them to grow fast.
Bare bottom, because you're going to be feeding them alot. Clean up will be so much easier.
A few rocks, just to make them feel safe.
I strip from the female (no fry lost)
2 to 3 water changes a week, good filters and they will grow super fast
ontario canada??

Just curious... How much of a water change each time? Like 50%, more of less?
