Default Going Bare w/ Rocks Only

Whats up gang, thinking of removing most of the sand in my tanks (just enough to barely cover the bottom) to get that bare bottom look with a few river rocks in there. I want the inhabitants to be the star of the tank and the pots I have in there, well, I'm getting tired of them. I've had these rocks in there before and chucked them outside when I got tired of them a few years back..lol. They've been sitting out there for awhile and I'm thinking of letting them sit in a bucket of water w/ some clorox in there to kill off anything bad. I've had things go bad when I just rinse the rocks, trophs get ill. I've read boiling the rock in water is a way but I'm not ready to go that route just yet. So, my drawn out long question is... Whats worked for you guys when adding rocks found outside in your area?
