Default Grand Canyon trip

Went out to California on business, stopped at the Canyon on the way back. It was mind blowing. However I was almost unlucky with the timing. When we got there the canyon was basically in total cloud inversion, which apparently to this level is only a once or twice a decade kind of thing. Cool to experience but almost made me miss the views. Was still a bit hazy and had low hangers after it cleared but overall I'm glad it cleared enough to see. I shot a lot with my neutral density filters, probably to much....I think some are to dark and wish I shot more lighter but not bad overall. Some are sunset, some sunrise, some after the sun was up. Mixed bag. Guess I have to make another trip and hit some other cool spots along the way!

This is the way it looked after the really really foggy day, still cloud inversion going on but not a total fog out like the day before. Literally couldn't see 5ft in front of you, glad we waited it out!

Left the people in that last one, shows some scale.

I went in 2013. It was great. I actually liked the parks in southern Utah better. And Mesa Verde in Cortez Colorado.

We did a cross-country drive in May '12 (I retired in Dec '11) and did 3days there ... no matter how many pictures you see, it still doesn't do justice to the real thing. Incredible site

And I love Fisherman's Wharf in San Fran ...

Agree its hard to capture it in photos. Just need to see it. I wanted to go up towards Utah but we were on a schedule as this was just a side trip on the way back from work. I'd love to spend more time and spread out a bit more. There's a lot of other points I want to hit out that way so I'm sure I'll get back at some point! Fisherman's Wharf was cool, I'd go back easily....but I found it a bit to touristy. I like getting off the path a bit.

The camera is a Canon 5D MK II, lens is 24-105mm. Used a 6 soft graduated Neutral density filter and a 9 hard GND filter for some of the photos. Had a circular polarizer as well.
