Yeah, unfortunately what you've described are known issues with Hydor's. I've heard that they'll offer bushings and other parts in an attempt to fix them, but I don't bother. As they break down, I'll toss them out.

My latest power heads are a pair of Sicce Voyager's. 3 year warranty, quiet, low power consumption - we'll see how well they'll do long term.

You got a good deal on the 1200 for $18 with pet mountain, foster and smith sell their 1200 for $22 and their 600 for $18. I know now where I'll be shopping now. Thanks

I only use a power filter if it is on a sponge filter. I don ' t use any power heads to move my water around. And I have yet to see a Tropheus that likes
to have water blowing in his face?

Ecotech mp10 or mp40s are the way to go. Especially for plecos. I used mp10s in my breeding tanks for L134 and L260

Same here. But I do have a few Korilla powerheads in my inventory of fish tank equipment with no issues.

I don't use powerheads in my main tank though I have a SWC model PSK2500 in my sump which was given to me. It was running strong for the previous owner for many yrs and still runs strong today.
The returns from my sump are 2 directional which I direct over the 2 rock piles to move solid waste into the open for easy removal. Occasionally my troph's intentionally swim head first into the current for a short spell but its def not the norm

Aqueon.

And big ones. I always run one size bigger than I see recommended just because I keep tropheus and I like them zoomin! And they like it too.

I run a pair of 1650s or 1250s in 6 ft tanks.

And a single 1250 or a pair of 950's in a 75/90 gals.

The price is right. They are strong. And Iv had some running for 2 years continuously and never had an issue with any of them.

Kens has them for the best price that I found back when I was buying them.

The only down side is that they are a bit bulky an protrude out into the tank quite a ways.... But to get the really slim line brands that barely stick off the glass...you have part with a substantially higher sum of money.

Also, if your are looking for little ones for small tanks, do not go any lower than the 750's.

The 500's are built much differently and of lower quality.

I run the 750's in my 40B grow out tanks and my fry grow like weeds.

How is the noise with the aqueon? I had one a while back and I ended up taking it back because it was vibrating the teeth out of the fish.. I will never buy the hydor again, they are great coming out of the gate but that's about it. Right now I am just using them for surface agitation..
