I'll illustrate why are w.c. Tropheus the most wanted. Even more than F1. My T. ikola colony (F. .. who knows?) swimms into the all volume of the tank, no matter who looks at them.
If someone stranger looks to the T. chaitika colony (wc), in no more than 5 seconds all the fish will hide and the tank looks empty.
So, behavior of the w.c. fish is not matched by no other subsequent generation.
The behaviour of Tropheus species was one of the most important reason when I changed Malawi cichlids with Tropheus!

I think that has too do more with varient. I have all wild fish. And only the kiriza hide when approached. All other colonies go nuts. Even for strangers.

I agree it might have to do with variant possibly other factors. My WC colonies of Bulu Point, Mpulungu, Ikola along with F1 Dubs and Bulombora that are right at the tank greeting you. I have F1 Lufubu and Illangi that take off when approached.

IMO and little experience compared to other on the forum, WC are more widely wanted by experienced keepers. Most under experienced fish keepers who want to try Tropheus want to start at minimum F1 because they relatively cheaper than spending all the money and risk on WC. Also when trying to sell fry what is most wanted, F1, F2 or tank raised? My guess would be F1, therefore more demand for WC. Just my thoughts.
