Hi
As my fish get older, their is two that I'm wondering if their Ilangi or not.
The photo with the yellow square is a photo of my "big dog" Ilangi, he's Ilangi for sure.
The photos with the yellow circle are the one's that I'm wondering about.
Need help

lol.. the ones circled look the MOST like Illangi, out of the whole group! It just seems they've lost their juvenile stripes is all.

they do look the most "ilangi" to me also.

What pictures are you using as a reference point?

I see no problem either just the usual variation within a type. thumbsup.gif

Some might say the whole colony is more the Chilanga/Nkamba Bay side if Ilangi rather than the sort after yellow end but lovely fish either way. I might have said the yellow type AKA ad Konings photos is unfindable these days except this WC came in recently.

they look like ilangi to me and i agree with what 24 tropheus said. they aren't the bright yellow variation of ilangi. i wouldn't question the individuals of that group for displaying a little different coloration as i agree with mj and jeebus and woould even add that i bet that the one's showing the different coloration are higher in the pecking order.

Personally I prefer your Ilangi type but the yellows seem to go for the big bucks. wacko.gif
I guess because they are seen as rare. wink.gif

I think it should be disclaimered that many of those "pineapple" bodied Illangi pictures out there are from a combination of many things:

1. Using a flash.
2. Catching the fish when they were "flashing" their colors.
3. Catching the fish just after a water change or feeding.

I've never seen anyone post consistent pictures of their Illangi colony where even one of their fish is always displaying those bright colors.

I would even go further to say that the Illangi pictured and circled above are some of the most text-book Illangi I've seen.

No, sorry but yellow Ilangi do exist. I have seen them in the flesh, fresh from import of WC. No photo tricks

What happens to the colours after they are bred or kept in tanks is a mystery to me as I have not bred them.

I have also seen WC Ilangi come in with the colours shown on the posters photos.

There are two collection sites for "Ilangi" one is more yellow than other.

To get yellow Ilangi I think you need to select the more yellow ones from the rare collection site.

Hopelessly confusing I know.

+1...i have seen the bright yellow ones in person multiple times and another friend of mine has an ilangi group like crawdaddy's so there are at least 2 different types of ilangi that i have seen in person.
